Unseasonably warm weather has prevented most of the open water in Ottawa from freezing, allowing ducks like this teal to have a place to feed and roost.

On one of the duck ponds at Andrew Haydon Park, lost somewhere in a sea of Canada geese, I located a lone cackling goose swimming lazily around.  Note the short, stubby bill and small head.

Here is a good comparison shot of a cackling goose (foreground) and a Canada goose (background).  Although the cackling goose is slightly closer to the camera than the Canada geese, it is still easy to see the difference in size between the two species.
